Three Common Air Conditioner Problems and How to Solve Them

Nobody ever likes having to pay for air conditioner repairs. Not only are they often expensive, but you have to live without the convenience of air conditioner units until they’re fixed. Thankfully, some common air conditioner problems can be solved quite easily. It’s usually just a matter of performing certain maintenance to them.

To make sure you never have to live without an AC unit, here’s a short list of some common air conditioner problems and solutions to help solve them!

1. Cleaning and Replacing the Filters.

This is such a simple task that it’s often overlooked. When the filter is dirty, clogged, or in need of replacement, it makes the unit work harder. This results in higher energy bills for less service. Also, because the unit is working harder than it’s supposed to, the compressor or fans will fail prematurely. These common air conditioner problems can be remedied by simply cleaning the filter every few months, and replacing it twice yearly.

2. Refrigerant Leaks.

If your unit is low on refrigerant, it’s either undercharged at installation, or it’s leaking. In the event of a leak, adding more refrigerant won’t work as a solution. Instead, you’ll need to hire a technician to fix the leak, test it, and then charge the system with the correct amount of refrigerant. Unfortunately, some common air conditioner problems need to be solved by professionals.

3. Unit Isn’t Cooling.

If you’re experiencing the common air conditioner problems of the unit not being able to cool, it could be because of a number of things. Perhaps your thermostat is set too high, or the condensor could be dirty or blocked. You can remedy each situation by respectively lowering the thermostat by five degrees, or cleaning the condensor while removing the dirt and debris blocking it.

These are only a few of the common air conditioner problems. If you have any questions about resolving them, feel free to ask in the comments. More info like this.
