What Do An Astronaut And A Rapper’s Teeth Have In Common?

Jewelry in houston

When we think of gold, probably the first thing that comes to mind is jewelry. Gold bangle bracelets, gold cross pendants, add a link bracelets, gold and diamond earrings… no matter the style, Houston jewelry connoisseurs know where to find the best jewelry Houston has to offer.

But did you know that over a fifth of all the gold taken from mines across the globe is not used in jewelry? Some is used in electronics, some is traded in financial transactions, some goes into teeth, and some is used for even more specialized purposes, such as the thin transparent gold film that covers a the visor of an astronaut!

However, when it comes to gold jewelry stores in Houston TX, just like in most cities across the country, still have the lions share. Especially when it comes to that most traditional piece of gold jewelry, the wedding ring. Be sure to check the band for the karat number, which will tell you how much of the gold is pure (for example, fourteen parts gold mixed with ten parts another metal will result in 14K gold).

Gold bands have always been cherished treasures. In fact, Roman brides in the 2nd Century B.C. would often be given a gold band and an iron band, one to wear in public and one to wear during household chores, respectively. Ask your Houston jewelry specialist if the same gold band comes in iron, and see if they know what you mean!

Whatever your choice in jewelry, be it gold, silver, or platinum, in a ring, necklace, bracelet, or earrings, Houston jewelry stores can help you find that perfect piece for yourself or for that someone special. Helpful info also found here.

  1. 24K gold is overrated. It’s way flimsier than 14K because of the lack of any stronger metals mixed into it, and I don’t think it looks any better than 14K. Just polish your 14K every now and then and it’s every bit as shiny.

  2. I disagree 100%. Some of the pieces I’ve seen in 14K haven’t been anywhere near as lustrous as a similar piece in 24K or even 20K or 18K. You should shop around a bit if you want to see the real difference.
